VOLUNTEERING
The Volunteering program is our longest running initiative, based on the premise that making a real difference is not only possible but vital. At Umuada Igbo Nigeria and in Diaspora, Volunteering is a source of great pride for our Charitable Foundation.

Umuada Igbo has a very large population of about 15million. Our Headquarters is in Enugu, Nigeria, West Africa. Umuada Igbo Nigeria was formed in 1998. Lolo Kate Ezeofor is the Founder. Umuada Igbo Nigeria is a National and International Organisation formed to mobilize and organize women and youth to participate in the process of Unity, Peace-building, Good Governance, family planning and reproductive health and right, women and youth empowerment, cultural change advocacy on issues such as girl child and women inheritance, promotion on Igbo Language and Culture, development of Igbo Land, Nigeria and any country wherever we find ourselves.

UMUADA IGBO NIGERIA AND IN DIASPORA ACHIEVEMENTS
1. WOMEN INHERITANCE RIGHT IN IGBO CULTURE IS A BIZARRE
❖ In Igbo culture women and girls are not allowed to inherit their fathers property and if they are married and have up to six daughters they widows do not inherit their father’s property.
❖ Many cases on inheritance come to our office, some complained that their brother’s in–law drove them out of their matrimonial home because they do not have male children

❖ In 2014 Umuada Igbo organized Workshop/ Seminar during Umuada Igbo Mother Tongue Day Celebration at Cathedral of Good Shepherd to discuss Women Inheritance right on Igbo culture.

❖ Umuada Igbo Nigeria has been fighting to stop discrimination of women on the inheritance of their parents and husbands.

❖ In April 2014 the Supreme Court of Nigeria the last hope of the common man and the down trodden came down with the land mark decision in the case of Mrs. Lios Ukeje & anor v. Mrs. Ada Ukeje (2014) 4 SCI Page 1, Onyibor Aniekwe v. Mrs. Maria Nweke (2014) 4 SC part III page 65, in the two cases the Supreme Court declared the customary law in Igbo land which disinherits women from inheriting their father’s or husband’s property null and void for being in breach of the fundamental human right provision in the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

❖ Umuada Igbo Nigeria organizes Seminar/Workshop/ Town Hall meetings/ August Meeting in the villages to educate them about the Supreme Judgment on human inheritance in Igbo Culture.

❖ Our Organization has legal section where we take up Women Inheritance in Igbo Culture case from Police to Court and for other poor women and other cases free of charge.

2. RAPE AND DEFILEMENT INTERVENTION

❖ A reported case of raping 60 – 80 years women by boys of 17 – 25 were reported to our office. We went there for cleansing of the land and talked to the people, we later took the matter to Enugu House of Assembly, the rape saga was then stopped.

3. RESCUE OF A WIDOW ACCUSING OF STEALING HER CHILD

❖ AIG AU Gwarry Fmr. Commissioner of Police as he then was helped us to free the women and her adopted son from Police cell accuse of stealing her son. We called him AIG AU Gwarry and AIG with a human face, we like him for that singular act of listening to us and taking his time timeously.

Who is Umuada Igbo Nigeria and in Diaspora
Umuada Igbo Nigeria and in Diaspora is an Umbrella/Apex body of Umuada women of Igbo Land of seven Igbo speaking states of Nigeria: Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, , Enugu, Imo and Rivers and Igbo women living all States of Nigeria and in Diaspora. It is a cultural, charitable, corporate and non- governmental organisation registered with Coporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Nigeria in 2000, Ministry of Women Affairs Nigeria, United States of America with 501c registered in United Kingdom. It has ECOSOC Status at the United Nations New York United States of America and Geneva Switzerland.
